What’s happening in the Gardens?The Friends, together with the MRSC Horticulture team, are committed to improving and promoting the Gardens for community use. We hope that all Kyneton locals, and tourists alike, enjoy our significant, historical and beautiful gardens. If you haven’t been to the Botanic Gardens in a while we encourage you to visit in the coming weeks while the Spring bulbs are spectacular and the gardens are truly looking their very best. Work in the Gardens has continued apace over recent weeks. Following clearing out of the Fern Gully and restoration of the watering system the Head Gardener, John, and his team have recently added several tree ferns as well as other suitable plants. Once established they will be a key feature of the Fern Gully providing an attractive vista from the roadway above and also from the river walk pathway below. John reports the ferns are already sprouting new fronds which bodes well! Visitors to the gardens will also notice new plantings in several of the garden beds along the central pathway - `the Simon Rickard beds’ - and an entirely new embankment of native plants along the bluestone wall at the rear of the Cottage. This work has also been done by John and his team together with support from Margot and Michael and a small group of Friends of Kyneton Botanic Gardens volunteers. It is important to note these projects are undertaken in accordance to the vision laid out in the MRSC 2011 Master Plan. Many of you will have noticed work has commenced on the front entrance to the Botanic Gardens on Mollison Street. The new street-facing space will more appropriately `announce’ the Gardens to visitors and offer a taste of what’s behind the gates. We thank the MRSC Environment team for their design work, implementation and financial contribution to the project.
